Each child’s journey is different, but the barriers they face impact them in deeply personal ways.
  • Mobility issues make it hard to join in at school or play with friends.
  • Without proper healthcare, many children are left without critical support.

    basic needs and the care their children require.

For over 50 years, the incredible generosity of the Variety community has supported children in need across Australia — including right here in Tasmania. Together, we’ve created a place families can turn to when times are tough — a place that offers practical support, hope and the opportunity for every child to thrive.
Thanks to our supporters, Tasmanian children can access the equipment, programs and opportunities they need to move, learn, communicate and participate in everyday life with greater confidence and independence. We work closely with donors, partners, sponsors and volunteers across the state to ensure support reaches the children and families who need it most.

How We Help
With the support of our donors and partners, we ensure children have the best opportunity to live life to the fullest regardless of ability or background.

Recent Grants

Mobile Antarctic Classroom
For the second year, Variety supported the Mawson's Hut Foundation to deliver the Mobile Antarctic Classroom to communities that might otherwise miss out.

Creative Arts Program
Since launching in 2019 the Variety Creative Arts Program has grown to be offered in 10 schools across the state and in 2025 our therapists delivered 3,840 therapy sessions to kids with adverse life experiences.

Mary's First Camping Trip
Mary was born with a chromosomal deletion and lives with complex disabilities including deafness, limb spasticity, scoliosis and is in a wheelchair. With support from Variety, her Mum was able to take her camping around Tasmania for the first time.

Story Dogs
In partnership with Story Dogs, Variety supported three volunteer dog teams to deliver one-on-one reading sessions for primary school students across Tasmania.

Motor Mouth Camp
This is a life-changing program for children with complex communication needs who rely on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices to express themselves. The camp provides families with access to specialist therapists, speech pathologists, and educators who help children learn how to use their devices effectively - giving them, quite literally, a voice.

Jack's Steps Made Possible
Jack has Autism linked to Charcot Marie-Tooth Syndrome and lives with weakness and chronic pain in his feet and lower legs. Variety stepped in to provide tailored orthotics to help him walk without pain.
